Through this film, you can tell how different European and American films are. Specifically with this film it had more sensuality and nudity, yet it wasn't used as a device for shock, but art and aesthetics, whereas American films tend to have sex and nudity more for shocking and gratuitous reasons. European films also focus more on dialogue and the meaning behind their actions, ranging from body language to the split mirrored screen in the beginning of the film between Chloe and Paul's first sessions together. American films are too focused on action. Even the theater, Institut Francais, was a different ambiance compared to American theaters. You didn't see everyone munching on popcorn, but instead sipped on wine or just drank water. The seats were also very luxerious and it felt more fancy being inside. You can easily tell how much these people value theater or films. It is shown in everything, everyone was dressed nice also. The end of the film left me wanting to keep watching, but it was an open book for many interpretations. There was never a dull moment where I got bored, but simply kept me on the edge of my seat.
All in all this has been one of my top movies to see, I was able to savor the art in all forms.
