Venturing up the iconic Primrose Hill countless couples, workout fanatics and dog-lovers enjoyed a perfect morning in the park. This scenic spot seemed to totally epitomize the prestigious-like suburbia of Camden Town and also exemplified the classic family-oriented lifestyles of many who reside there. Children and dogs all ran free without a care in the world and I thought to myself, "This place can't get any better". Just a short tube ride was all it took to get such a surreal area of pure happiness and peace (I can understand why Bill loves it so much).
Once our group got some snapshots of the panoramic city-skyline Primrose Hill highlights (and once we got our fill of dog-petting), we walked through side streets in route to the legendary Camden Market. Passing plenty of perfect family homes and cutting through a "locals only" area, we arrived at the heart of Camden town's punk rock atmosphere. In about 5 minutes, everything about the previous scenery had changed. Graffiti filled each wall, music blared from public performers, and boys in canoes flipped their boats over ready to splash down the canal we walked along.
This vast change of suburbia to city life was shocking yet fascinating and personally seemed like the best of both worlds for a family lifestyle. How could you get bored in this town? Entering the famous Camden Market, the vast range of food, knickknacks, records and people filled my view. Camden Market is nationally known for starting the punk rock culture and creating a hub for artists of all kinds. Inside the famous market lies Roundhouse Dance Hall which played counter-culture bands such as, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and many other famous rock bands throughout the 70's.
This punk-rock vibe was evident the second we entered. The variety of foods and music seen throughout Camden town was insane. Each individual we passed, each food stand, each street performer were all beautifully unique from one another, yet they all seemed to mesh together perfectly. For example, there was an African American group playing indigenous music on bongos and then right down the street was a lone guitar player singing folk songs.
Exploring such a happening yet classic suburbia filled town was eyeopening. It was exciting to watch different cultures and lifestyles co-exist so well. Camden Town, you have my heart!
